Farm News & Recipes

Happy autumnal equinox (and happy new year)! Though our growing season is certainly still underway, it is around this time that we begin to prepare for next year. When you are farming sustainably you are always looking ahead – everyday decisions impact the future of the farm: pull weeds before they can spread their seeds, keep a healthy compost pile that will eventually go back into the soil, manage pests so their populations don’t explode in subsequent years, rotate crops to avoid soil depletion and disease. This fall we’ve already added a bunch of compost and sown cover crops, which will provide nutrition and protect the soil over the winter. We’ve also sent in soil samples to be analyzed in the lab – the results will guide us in our effort to revitalize our soil after a long, intense growing season. We nourish the soil and it nourishes us.

Cook up those veggies: Smoked Paprika and Rutabaga Bisque, Roasted Root Vegetables, Late Summer Greens Saute, Green Salad with Creamy Mustard Vinaigrette.
